    Beware if you don't speak German!

    I do not write many reviews, but I felt that I should speak out about my recent utterly disappointing and disheartening encounter with Dr. Mera Kuse to prevent someone else from having a similar experience as I did.

    Last weekend, my partner experienced excruciating lower back pain, leaving him unable to move. Fearing the worst, I dialed emergency services and was advised to call 116117 for a doctor to visit our home.
    I booked a doctor's visit, and from here, a series of frustrating and distressing events followed…

    10 minutes before the visit, I received a phone call from someone speaking in German. With my limited understanding of the language, I discerned that it was a doctor. I tried to convey that I didn't speak German and inquired if they were downstairs at the entrance. Despite my attempts to communicate in German while rushing downstairs to meet them, the person abruptly hung up before I reached the door. No one was there, so I called back the number that had called me.

    When the person on the other end picked up, they sounded upset and insisted that this was Germany, and they only spoke German. They continued speaking in German, making it challenging for me to comprehend everything. So I asked if they spoke English, to which they replied in perfect English that they didn't speak it and repeated that they only spoke German because this is Germany. "But you are speaking to me in English right now", I said. She frustratedly responded that she was upset because I had initially spoken to her in English on the phone without asking if she spoke English. Hands up, amid the chaotic situation, I couldn't recall which language I had used when answering the call. My mind was in a state of shock and worry, primarily concerned with my boyfriend's immobilizing pain. I apologized to the doctor for lack of German and tearfully asked the doctor to come. She said she would be there in 5 minutes. I nervously waited outside, dreading what might unfold next as my boyfriend is also learning German and does not speak it yet. The experience so far left me concerned that the level of assistance we receive from this doctor might be influenced by our language proficiency, which is entirely unfair and unprofessional. Medical professionals should prioritize patient care regardless of language barriers, as lives and well-being are at stake.

    Eventually, the doctor and her driver arrived. With a lack of urgency and empathy, her indifferent demeanor approached. I apologized again and asked to focus on my boyfriend's health issue. She ignored my ask, kept fixating on my language proficiency, and even scolded me throughout the journey to the fourth floor, adding insult that I'd been in the country for a year and still didn't speak German.

    2 seconds into our bedroom, where we reached my suffering partner, she took a phone call without regard for his pain or our distress.

    Thankfully, the medical treatment itself was adequate, but it could not redeem the overall experience. We were left feeling disrespected and belittled. We are immigrants from different countries for over 15 years and lived elsewhere but never had experienced such disrespectful treatment as this.

    As a paying resident who contributes significantly through taxes and hard work, I find it utterly unacceptable to be treated with such disregard by a healthcare provider. In my understanding, doctors should prioritize patient care and empathy, regardless of the language they speak.

    Per my experience and the lack of basic respect from Dr. Mera Kuse, I would advise against seeking medical attention from this person. Her cold and unsympathetic demeanor overshadowed any medical help she provided, and I believe that compassion and understanding should be integral qualities in any healthcare professional.
